After a negative experience with soccer (own goal) and bullying, Nelson decided to switch to martial arts, inspired by a television program. At that time, Master Arturo Petit was demonstrating techniques alongside Ed Parker on screen, which motivated Nelson to begin his journey in 1987.
He started his training at Master Arturo Petit's school in 1987 in Santiago, Chile, where he reached the green belt. He continued practicing while completing his university studies, eventually becoming an Engineer and math Teacher.
In 2005, he received his black belt from Master Héctor Jofré. A couple of years earlier, he had already begun teaching at his own school as a brown belt and continued to improve, working with various organizations and taking private lessons with various renowned masters of the art of Kenpo. In 2020, he achieved his fifth degree from Master Frank Vigorux, with Master Jamie Seabrook as testing panel.
To date, Nelson continues to refine his skills and has over 25 years of experience teaching and conducting Kenpo classes, parallel to performing his other certified professional activities as a Mechanical Engineer, Science Teacher, Musician, and Photographer
