In the art of tattoo many designs were not the creation of the artist, nor would, or should, an artist claim it as such. The ability to design a suitable representation of an image to work on a 3 dimensional, non symmetrical canvas and replicate these designs into the skin is the mark of the tattoo artist. Weather the original artwork was the tattooists original creation or not, the art and the tattoo are two separate things all together.
On June 30th 1966, Mike Tyson was born in Brooklyn, New York. At 16, Tyson’s mother passed away and boxing manager Cus D’Amato became his legal guardian. In his amateur career, Tyson won gold medals at the 1981 and 1982 Junior Olympic Games, going on to make his professional debut at age 18 in 1985. Early in his professional career, he put together a winning streak and quickly gained the attention of the mainstream media. In 1986, he became the youngest heavyweight champion in history at 20 years and four months, taking the title from Trevor Berbick. He was the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990, simultaneously holding titles from WBA, WBC and IBF.

Randy Orton’s forearm tattoos look very good, but back in the day, he used to have only tribal art on his shoulder and forearms. Now a good tribal tattoo is instantly recognizable (take a look at Roman Reigns). There’s an interesting story about his tattoos too.
During the design process, Tyson and Whitmill collaborated with each other, with Tyson making suggestions on the imagery and symbolism he wanted to incorporate into the design. After several iterations, they settled on the final design, which has since become iconic.
In 2003, Mike Tyson’s boxing career was coming to an end. When he stepped into the ring against Clifford Ettienne, however, something was different. While Iron Mike was able to dispatch his opponent without breaking a sweat, he was sporting a new tattoo on his face.
Mr Whitmill claimed Tyson gave him the copyright of the tattoo and Warner Bros. using it in The Hangover was a violation of copyright infringement laws. He tried to stop the release of The Hangover 2 but ended up settling out of court for an unknown amount.
